Dentine hypersensitivity

Video transcript

The processes of tooth wear are usually considered under three headings of attrition, abrasion and erosion. And, in respect to dentin hypersensitivity it's probably mainly erosion and abrasion that are acting either alone or together. The relationship between tooth wear and dentin hypersensitive I think sort of works both ways, particularly in a young adult, if one is all ready seeing signs of tooth wear, I think one would be concerned that that individual may eventually develop dentin hypersensitivity. I think if you look at it from the other point of view, is if somebody is presenting with dentine hypersensitivity, my experience would suggest they almost certainly do have tooth wear.
